About URL Encoder / Decoder
URLs may only contain a limited set of characters. Percent-encoding replaces anything outside that set with a % followed by its hexadecimal byte value, so spaces, ampersands, and non-Latin characters can be carried safely in a query string without breaking the URL structure.
How to use
- Paste the URL or query string parameter you need to convert.
- Choose encode or decode.
- Copy the safe, transport-ready result.
Frequently asked questions
Why does a space become %20 or a plus sign?
Percent-encoding represents a space as %20. In the older form-submission format, spaces became plus signs instead. Both appear in the wild, so decoders usually accept either.
Should I encode the whole URL or just parts of it?
Encode individual values only. Encoding a complete URL would escape the ://, slashes, and question mark that give it structure, leaving it unusable.
Which characters need encoding?
Reserved characters carrying meaning — : / ? # [ ] @ ! $ & ' ( ) * + , ; = — plus spaces and any non-ASCII character.
